Financial Literacy Month – November 2025: Family Services of Greater Vancouver Offers the Community Free Financial Help Services
What: November marks the 15th anniversary of Financial Literacy Month (FLM) in Canada – a nationwide campaign led by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada to support financial wellbeing across the country. This year’s theme, “Talk Money,” encourages people in Canada to break the silence around their finances and have open, empowering conversations about money.
Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) is proud to support this mission through its Financial Empowerment Program, which offers free one-on-one coaching, tax clinics, and workshops. These services help individuals and families across the Lower Mainland build financial skills, access government benefits, and feel more confident navigating their financial future – all delivered through a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach.
Why: In today’s challenging and uncertain economic climate, British Columbians are feeling the impacts of tariffs, high living costs, and a threatened employment market. With barriers to accessing financial help services, challenges navigating government benefits, and predatory lending regulations, the number of people struggling with their finances is on the rise.
By the numbers:
Over 5 million Canadian households are considered low-income, with 61% reporting significant financial hardship (report here).
Canada’s poverty rate has risen for the third consecutive year. The most recent available data (2023) shows that it stood at 10.2%, meaning 1 in 10 people were living below the poverty line.
In 2024, 25.5% of people in Canada experienced food insecurity – the highest rate ever recorded (report here).
In 2024, FSGV helped over 3,300 people build financial literacy and secured more than $2.4 million in government benefits.
Everyone deserves the tools and support to build a more stable financial future – and FSGV is here to help.
When: Financial Literacy Month runs throughout November 2025.
